As Planning Manager in Los Alamos County, Sobia heads both Current and Long Range Planning projects. Sobia had the opportunity to work on local Mobile Food Vending Ordinance, White Rock and Los Alamos Metropolitan Redevelopment Plan, DP Road Neighborhood Master Plan, and the comprehensive re-write of Los Alamos County Development Code.
Prior to Moving to Los Alamos, Sobia worked in the field of architecture in Santa Fe, Dallas, and New York City. Since graduating from School of Architecture from Mississippi State University, she has worn many hats in her professional practice. Over the last 25 years, Sobia has been involved in implementing public policy, Planning & Zoning ordinances, and building code nearly every day of her professional life.
Community-led social justice work is at the heart of Sobia’s personal interest. The last 15 years of experience living in Northern New Mexico has shaped her expertise in affordable housing. Sobia’s interest in housing centric work of various organizations such as Rural Studio in Auburn, AL. and Harvard Design School have inspired her to focus on affordable housing ideas in her community.
